The Rock Pioneers
Were Patriots

We don't have to repeat here for the millionth time how much fun 1950s Rock'n'Roll Music was and still is, and always will be.

What we will do instead, during these times when America is under attack by Nazi-like Arab terrorists, is to raise praises for the patriotism of our Rock'n'Roll Pioneers from the 1950s, and contrast that with the anti-American attitudes championed by many of the 1960s-1970s-1980s-1990s artists.

We can start with CHUCK BERRY, and listen to his patriotic hymns to America, songs like "Promised Land" and "Back In The USA" ("Did I miss the skyscrapers, did I miss the long freeways, where hamburgers stands sizzle every night and day, you can bet I did till I got back home from overseas to the USA.........) . Compare that to the anti-American rant "American Woman" by the 1960s Hippie group The Guess Who.

CHUCK BERRY is a true American Patriot.

Chuck Berry loves America!

Then we move to FATS DOMINO, a man whose dozens of Top Ten Hits, are only matched by his love for The Southland, and New Orleans in particular, city about which he wrote several moving songs.

FATS DOMINO is a true American Patriot.

ELVIS PRESLEY was proud to serve his country in the Army. But beyond that, he valiantly fought against segregation and racial bigotry. Elvis was a great friend of the Jewish People, going so far as hiring a rabbi to teach him Judaism and considering conversion to that religion. For those who think this was a passing fad, read the following (first published in Column 42):
Not only was Elvis the King of Rock'n'Roll, but he also was always eager to help others: Elvis had an Orthodox Rabbi for neighbour who needed a non- Jew to do basic chores during the Shabbath.

So he asked Elvis, who was around Jeremy's age at the time, for help. Presley gladly accepted to help the Rabbi and his family on the Shabbath.

But when it came time for the Rabbi to pay Elvis, the young Presley refused to accept any money even though he was dirt poor back then. Elvis felt it was a great honor for him to help out the Jewish People, and would not take any compensation whatsoever.

This went on for many Shabbaths. Presley always refused to take money. To this day the Rabbi's family remembers fondly how kind and generous Elvis Presley was.

ELVIS PRESLEY is a true American Patriot.

The King!

I've seen LITTLE RICHARD many times in concert, and also met him personally half a dozen times. Whether in public, or in private, Little Richard has been consistent throughout all his life in promoting brotherhood between Blacks & Whites and Jews & Christians. Contrast that to the virulent racist and anti-Semitic hatred dished out day after day by the many Hip Hop acts. Hatred which advocates burning down Korean stores, shooting police officers, and torturing women. Shades of the Taliban here.

LITTLE RICHARD is a true American Patriot.

I met GENE VINCENT personally, and while we talked mostly about Rock'n'Roll Music, every now and then we would steer into other subjects. GENE was a very patriotic American. He was also adamantly opposed to any form of racial and religious bigotry. This must have come across to his fans, since the concert audience in certain regions was 50%, or more, African American.

GENE VINCENT is a true American Patriot.

We can go on and on, and list all the patriotic statements and actions of the many Hillbilly, Rock'n'Roll, Blues and Swing artists from the 1930s to the 1950s.

(Gene Autrey, Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Hank Snow, Carl Perkins, etc., etc.)

These were people who believed in Freedom and Justice and Brotherhood and genuinely loved America and detested Communism, Fascism, Socialism, Nazism and racism.

Then we contrast this patriotism of the 1950s Pioneers to the anti-American vitriol of the many 1960s-1970s groups who carried the banners of Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh and other such mass murderers.

They are followed by the "punk" movement. While many punk bands are non-political, unfortunately there are sizable contingents who are pro-Marxist, and others which have spinned-off into neo-Nazi skinheads. These last ones, as well as the Marxist ones, showed great joy at the mass murder of 5000 innocent people in New York at the hand of Islamic terrorists. But, I repeat, many punk bands are non-political, and don't subscribe to extremist politics.

I'm proud to write for this site, The Rockabilly Hall Of Fame, where we pay tribute to the REAL AMERICAN PATRIOTS!!
